The New York Minute Dress - Tie Dye Diva

Blog post # 2 for today been a busy week of sewing. But it is the best kind of sewing since we are getting into fall and winter cloths! We are moving into french terry, sweater knits, and all things warm and cozy! Hopefully I will get a post up sometime in the near future of the fabric types for the beginner sewists since some of these I just got introduced to last year.

This is the New York Minute dress it comes with many options such as short sleeves, 2 different pocket options, a neckband or hood and a rolled hem (dress is Aline) or a banded hem. It can also be modified into a shirt for boys too (in the pattern itself ) and you can find the designers blog to do other modifications like a high low hem and new necklines here. As always measure your child and go off of the size chart here when choosing what size to make since it doesn't necessarily follow RTW sizes.

This sews up easy just like a normal shirt really and instructions are written well. I chose to use a cotton lycra and DBP (double brush poly) this way it can still be worn on the semi warm fall days we have here in PA. Only thing I wish this pattern had as an option is sleeve cuffs since the band on the bottom makes it look more like a sweat shirt I want them on the sleeves as well but that is a personal preference.

My Double needle kept skipping stitches while making this one so I got fed up and used a zig zag stitch half way through for all my top stitching so the kangaroo pocket looks a little funny since that is where the double needle ate the fabric a bit. Tip is when using the zig zag while it is a stretch stitch stretch your fabric as you sew since if you don't it will still break the thread when you have to stretch the hems to put on.
